I found the opening words in a stack of forgotten lyrics written by my friend, Mary Nakamura. Her words described the walk of a believer through the desert to 'the place you have for me'. Just like the Israelites, there are times when we may feel alone, tired, and unable to hear God's voice clearly. In our weariness, its easy to wonder if it would be easier to go back to the bondage from which we were set free! Mary gave me permission to use her thoughts, and Don and I collaborated and finished the song! I love the arrangement he created!

Lyrics

THE PLACE YOU HAVE FOR ME
Koch/Watson/Nakamura

Forty days and nights without you
fashioning this golden calf to replace you
Thoughts of egypt call through cracked and crumbling sand
drowning out the vision of a distant promised land

CHORUS:

Be my strength when I wanna go back
my eyes
when I can't see past
my pain
to the place you have for me
be my light
when the fire dies
my hope
when I've all but tried
my way
to the place you have for me
to the place you have for me

Lord I know where you have called me
and there's no easy way to get where you're leading
but then you send me grace like water from a stone
living out the promise that you're there to lead me home

CHORUS

BRIDGE:
let your love burn away my doubt
spirit wind blow through my fearful heart
this desert sand is sifting me through

let your love burn away my doubt
spirit wind blow through my fearful heart
and let it draw me closer to you

CHORUS
